alright, I'll nibble. so what's Obama's "stance on guns"? enquiring minds need to know.

I'm not sure I saw anything to wipe that worshipful smile off my face. Discuss.

Dr. T- his stance is, er, "straddle" according to the various orgs I am a member of--SCI, NAHC, DU, etc. (Notice no NRA in that list). See the link at the word "reading" for a decent (somewhat left leaning) analysis.

Dr. D- not yet, and perhaps never. Or, perhaps soon you won't be able to buy junior a gun in the same month you bought yours. He won't be able to straddle for ever. I am truly interested in where he comes down on the issue.

I have a hard time thinking that with so much else on his plate the guy's going to have much time to take away anybody's guns.

call me Pollyanna.

Yeah, JT--in the near term I think you are right. But there will be Supreme Court justices, and there will be "re-dos" on DC's arcane gun laws. And The One will have to take a stand. Honestly, I 'm not so sure how the gun freaks got so cranked up about him. However, it is true that the "moment" on the 2nd amendment arguments is arriving. Event made man or event making man? Time will tell.

Firearms Sales Spike Since 2008 Election

Think it will be harder to buy firearms under the incoming administration and congress? Some 80 percent of hunters and shooters recently polled by Southwick Associates Inc. said "yes." In fact, fewer than 1 in 5 believe there will be no increase in difficulty to legally purchase guns.

The result? A sharp increase in gun sales now, despite the weak economy. Data from the FBI's National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) shows a 24 percent increase in firearm purchaser background checks in December '08 (1,523,426 checks) from December '07 (1,230,525 checks). This follows a 42 percent increase in November '08 over November '07 — the highest number in NICS history.

Industry sources reveal specific types of handguns and semi-automatic hunting and target rifles are fast outpacing inventories and make up the bulk of increased sales. Ammunition makers agree that the fastest sales involve handgun rounds and military-base cartridges, such as the .223 Rem.

You can monitor national firearms sales numbers and watchdog the moves of the new administration and congress via the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
