Atwater's Miss Cody: August 25, 1997 - April 15, 2010

Cody, sweet Cody, succumbed to kidney cancer today. Ever compliant, she was a wonderful companion, a patient, passionate retriever, and a great family member. We were fortunate to see her grow into an old dog, deaf and content. She lies in sweet, sandy loam, head resting on a decoy.

Pete, I am sorry. Sorry too that I missed your call this afternoon. I said my prayer at 4, even in the middle of class. She was a great dog and I'll remember her always. McPhee the last one standing of the original central PA trio--but he'll be seeing his gal friends soon enough. There is some comfort in this.

I didn't know Cody, but I've known great dogs. It's never easy to lose one. So sorry for your loss.

Pete, I'm also really sorry to hear this, I had no idea about the kidney cancer. Our family has happy memories of Cody and Abbey both romping around with the various Tantarlow dogs and children at Sirrine Road. She'll be missed, she was really a terrific dog.

Pete, I'm sorry for the loss of Cody. You know I was a fan. What a wonderful dog in the blind, and she brought them all back. The wood ducks in the beaver swamp at S. Bristol. Such a sweet dog.

Some of the best mornings of my life were spent with Cody nearby, waiting patiently to take whatever instructions might come next in our adventures. Unflappable and steady, comfortable in her own skin. Abbie, Molly and Cody romping through the woods and rocking the boats. I'll be replaying those memories for a long time.

Pete and Family,

I only met Cody briefly on the way to and from grouse camp a couple years back, but Pete's posts here made it clear to me that she held a big place in your hearts.

My thoughts are with you.
