While we all knew this day was coming doesn't make it an easier. Truly sorry Jim! My condolences to you and your family! I can close my eyes and picture Katie pointing woodcock in the loop at Old T. I will fondly remember those days! SJ

I am truly sorry Jim. I reaffirm my thoughts about Katie from my recollections from Maine. A bright star has been extinguished...to be transformed into a brighter memory. Please do let me know if there is anything that would ease the loss...welcome here anytime for a reminisce, a scotch by the fire...and of course a hunt if it would help to take the mind elsewhere. My condolences.

Sorry to hear the sad news, Jim. Judging from your hunting chronicles, she helped you find some of the best moments in life. Can't ask for more.

Can't add much that hasn't been stated in the previous posts other than I have a whole lot of love and admiration for late great Kate and her (still living) owner. Get yer butt into Double Black and let the healing begin!

just wanted to thank everyone for the kind thoughts.

we're settling back into a routine--took Phoebe out today and practically stepped on a snow roosted grouse. fumbled in my gloves to get off a shot at a straightaway bird out in the open for 70 yards before it hit the woods. oh well.

A dog does not live as long as a man and this natural law is the fount of many tears. If a boy and a puppy might grow to manhood and doghood together, and together grow old, and so in due course die, full many a heartache might be avoided. But the worls is not so ordered, and dogs will die and men will weep for them so long as there are dogs and men. (Ben Williams).

Jim, I will miss Kate terribly, but will always cherish the memories, especially of her first pointed kills at Old T.
