Satiated by yesterday's goose hunt and tired from the Kuneytown revelries, we lounged until late morning. Performed farm chores in the mid-day, then finally made it to the Hector Grouse woods around 3. Three pm that is (an important distinction for the die-hard waterfowlers). Lilly hunted well, but no birds were encountered. Retract that statement. There's always a truck bird. At 5:15, guns unloaded and 10 yards from the car, a lone grouse flushed. May there always be another truck bird. Happy 2010 Grousers.

Getting out is the important thing. . . which for the first time in many years I did not, due to a collection of chores.
I did make it out today, however (Jan. 2). Didn't do great. Fishermen were actually out on a lot of the river, and much of it was iced over. Still, I downed a Golden Eye from quite high with the 10 gauge, and we had a delicious roast duck tonight.
Saw a lot of geese on fields, but not where I could do much about it. I know where they were further away, but didn't get there. Still, my son and I had a good day.
Pete,
That was a fun hunt and an excellent way to cap off a great New Years celebration. Here's to more memory makin' with GSPs.
